On Thursday, a woman was shot during an attempted armed robbery in broad daylight outside of an upscale Beverly Hills restaurant.
According to Beverly Hills Police Department, the shooting occurred around 2 p.m. near the Il Pastaio restaurant when three armed men “demanded” property from a customer.
Police authorities said one of the men shot the woman and all three suspects then fled the scene on foot.
The unidentified woman was immediately brought to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while another second person was also treated at the scene for injuries sustained during the incident.
While police did not say what the robbery suspects were attempting to steal, an eyewitness said that the men were trying to steal another customer’s watch.
“[The watch owner] was fighting with them,” the witness, a friend of the restaurant patron with the watch, remembered. “And while they were fighting, he pulled the gun and the gunshot one of the girls.”
CBS La reported that the watch is believed to be a Richard Mille valued at several hundred thousand dollars.
Beverly Hills Police Capt. Max Subin said that the suspects were targeting the customer, not the restaurant itself, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Il Pastaio opened in 1994 and has been a longtime fixture in the Beverly Hills restaurant scene, boasting many celebrity clients throughout the years.
