In the UK, a woman bribed a boy with chips and sweets to touch her sexually in a field near the school.
Deborah Yates, 38, encouraged the 12-year-old boy to skip school and meet her in an open field where some of the sexual activity took place, the court heard.
According to Derbyshire Live, the abuse began with Deborah kissing and hugging the boy and soon told him to put his hands down her pants.
The publication also added that a teacher found the accused lying down in the bushes with the victim.
The report has said that the jury spent more than a day deliberating before finally charging Deborah with three counts of sexual assault of a child aged under 13, two counts of inciting under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and one count of child kidnapping.
Judge Robert Egbuna presided over the case. He adjourned the sentence until April 19th and said that he wanted to see an updated victim impact statement before finally deciding on Deborah’s fate. He then ordered to detain the 38-year-old until then.
A Derby-based charity named Safe and Sound, focuses on supporting children and young victims or at risk of child and sexual exploitation. They supported the 12-year-old boy after Deborah’s arrest.
“I particularly want to commend this young boy for his bravery in disclosing what he had been subjected to,” Safe and Sound CEO Tracy Harrison said.point 416 |
“It was clear from the outset that he had been groomed to believe that this was a healthy, normal relationship and our specialist support worker needed to approach this subject in a careful and empathetic way.point 180 | ”point 183 | 1
“His confusion about what had happened shows the complex manipulation that children and young people are in danger of in our local communities.”
Prosecutor Andrew Vout opened the trial by saying how the offenses happened in 2017 when both Deborah and the boy were living in Derby.
He said Yates befriended him and within a short space of time began grooming him.
“We say she groomed him and had sexual contact with him,” Vout said. “She says there was no sexual contact at all. She’s lying.”
“She asked him not to go to school and encouraged him to meet her rewarding him with sweets and drinks,” he continued. “She would meet him at a field near his school and encourage him to kiss and touch her.”
“She would put her hands down his trousers and touch him (sexually),” Vout said. “She asked him to do the same, she would give him money, sweets, and crisps.”
Vout added that Deborah gave the boy a mobile phone so they could meet without other people knowing.
The prosecutor said the teachers at the boy’s school became concerned he started missing lessons and that he went missing on many occasions.
According to Vout, the police became involved in September 2017 and Deborah was issued with a restraining order to “stay away” from the boy.
On December 7, 2017, Deborah met the boy near his school and one of the teachers went outside and found her lying down in bushes with the boy lying next to her with its hood up.
“She rearranged her clothing and came out of the bushes and then a smaller figure came out and that was (the victim),” Vout said. “She was arrested for child abduction and shortly after this moved out of the area.”
“(The boy) found what happened extremely confusing, boundaries had been blurred, he had been groomed,” Vout added. “He spoke to the organization Safe and Sound which specialized in dealing with child sexual victims.”
Vout said that Deborah was arrested and questioned but she denied all the accusations.
