In Canada, a rare and dangerous illness happened to a diabetic woman.
The unnamed woman, 27, was diagnosed with a serious disease in Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Canada.
According to her case in the New England Journal of Medicine, she has high blood pressure in addition to new-onset diabetes.
The woman told the doctors that she was experiencing muscle weakness for months and that she’s also 32 weeks into pregnancy. What caught their attention was the noticeable stretch mark on her breasts and abdomen.
The doctors have said that the woman might have Cushing syndrome.
A Cushing syndrome could develop such marks on a patient’s body, too much cortisol, a hormone, either by exposure to steroids or the body’s adrenal glands could be the cause of this rare syndrome.
The pregnant woman then underwent an ultrasound and they found a 7cm mass in her right adrenal gland.
In order for the baby to be safely delivered, the doctors gave the woman a certain medication to manage her blood pressure.
A CT scan was done after the delivery, however, the doctors found a worrisome adrenal carcinoma in her body.
Hormone imbalance, nausea, weight gain, and muscle weakness are the symptoms of Adrenal carcinoma. It can be found in the body’s adrenal cortex which is an aggressive and malignant tumor.
After a month, the presence of a cancerous growth was confirmed by the doctors and they decided to remove one of her adrenal glands. The doctors also confirmed that cancer had not spread.
