US Senator Labels Slavery As ‘Necessary Evil,’ Claims America Is ‘Racist Free’


US Senator, Tom Cotton, is in the line of fire after receiving major backlash for his rather bold statements.

The senator made great attempts to defend himself after labeling slavery as a ‘necessary evil,’ while making claims that America is ‘racist free.’

The renowned Republican’s statements arrived when he introduced some rather compelling legislation that challenged a 1619 project.

 To be exact, the curriculum is aimed at ‘reframing the country’s history, while putting all the consequences of the acts of slavery as well as Black American contributions, at the country’s forefront for national narrative.’

The actual creator of the famous 1619 project is a journalist, Nikole Hannah- Jones, who hails from the New York Times. Jones was also awarded this year for her major contributions with the Pulitzer Prize, in regards to her commentary.

With that being said, if Tom Cotton’s 2020 ‘Saving American History Act’ gets approved as law, several leading school districts that use the curriculum can face grave financial setbacks.

In a recent interview quoted by Arkansas Online, Cotton spoke of the 1619 project, terming it as the ‘worst revisionist history.’ Similarly, he called it, ‘racially divisive.’

The US Senator also rejected any facts claiming that America was the center of systemic racism. Furthermore, Cotton explained how slavery was a major issue that couldn’t be overlooked.

The senator also made claims that the role, history, and great impact of slavery towards the uprising of the nation needed to be studied further, so that the US could be ‘understood.’ However, he went on towards implying how the entire nation requires slaves for its development.

Moreover, Cotton argued that it was incorrect to portray America as ‘a rotten, racist, and irredeemably corrupt nation.’ He further explained that the US should be looked upon as ‘a flawed and imperfect region of land, but the noblest and greatest nation in the history of mankind.’

In regards to his rather public bold statements, Cotton continues to face immense backlash across the board. Similarly, people are hurling accusations for his attempts at justifying slavery.
