The US is bracing for a breakthrough verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial as the jury retires to deliberate.
Today, President Joe Biden also called upon the family of George Floyd to speak to them and let them know that he was in their thoughts and prayers. The news comes as the US anxiously awaits the end of the trial of former Minneapolis cop, Derek Chauvin. He has been accused of killing George Floyd with charges relating to manslaughter as well as murder.
Recently, George Floyd’s brother Philonise Floyd confirmed to the Press how the President did in fact make a phone call.point 220 |
“He was calling because he also knows what it is like to lose a family member,” the brother added.point 92 | “He is well aware of what we are all going through as a family.point 148 | Hence, he was just letting us know that we are in his thoughts and prayers, hoping that everything will come out to be okay in the end,” Philonise added.point 279 | 1
When present at the White House, the president spoke about how he patiently waited for the jury to retire and deliberate over the verdict, before making the timely phone call to George Floyd’s family.
“I have come to know George Floyd’s family over time,” the president explained to reporters during his press conference. He also added how the family is going through a period of extended anxiety as well as pressure.
Referring to Floyd’s family as a ‘good family,’ the president also mentioned how the family wished for nothing but peace and tranquility.
Minnesota has already called in about 3000 troops comprising of the National Guard as the state prepares for any acts of violence. Moreover, just today, hundreds of BLM protesters thronged the streets, chanting slogans against the police and calling for justice as they waved Black Lives Matter movement flags too.
