A recent court ruling demanded that the Trump Organization turn over documents to the New York attorney general.
The news comes in as the Trump Organization undergoes a series of investigations regarding a certain property’s tax abatements. Furthermore, news sources confirm how the investigations are now in the hands of the New York Attorney General, Letitia James’ office.
Previously, the Trump Organization expressed how the documents were under the protection of an attorney-client privilege. Now, one of the company’s attorneys, Amy Carlin, argued how the Trump Organization expected those matters to remain confidential.
The recent public statement that was released by the Trump side stated: ‘there was every expectation that all of those communications would be confidential.’ This was in regards to discussions about a particular property, situated in Westchester County. It also involves an engineer.
On the other hand, the office for the attorney general argued how the documents weren’t privileged.point 212 |
And that’s because Trump’s company ‘waived away the privilege,’ as it disclosed particular documents to IRS.point 117 | Therefore, this was so they could ‘gain benefits.point 165 | ’ Attorney Eric Haren made the bold statements, alongside the Attorney General’s office recently.point 261 | 1
In the same way, Haren also explained how ‘almost everything’ wasn’t disclosed to his office, other than the final value for the appraisal.point 257 |
Since then, James’ office was working its way at investigating President Trump as well as his organization, since the year 2019.point 114 | And this was when Trump’s ex-attorney, Michael Cohen, testified his stance, before the Congress.point 203 | 1
Here, Cohen made claims about how Trump’s yearly financial statements greatly inflated all the values of his assets.point 221 |
This way, they could work their way towards securing numerous favorable loans as well as insurance coverage.point 92 | Just like that, they also deflated the values of their other assets, just so they could reduce their taxes for real estate.point 194 | 1
Therefore, Haren expressed how the refusal of the organization to release those very documents led to a delay in the attorney general’s investigations.
