New York’s legislators are moving forward with a bill that officially renames Donald J Trump State Park.
According to media reports, Trump donated the park’s land to the state in the year 2006. However, it seems like that no longer holds any value as lawmakers deem it necessary to alter its name, once and for all.
Local news outlets confirmed how the famous Empire State’s committee for tourism voted fiercely in a 14-7 move that headed in favor of the legislation. This issue was actually put forward, four years ago, by an Assemblywoman from the Democratic party, named Nily Rozic.
At that time, she put forward the idea of renaming the part after Heather Heyer- a woman who lost her life in 2017 after a terrible accident. She was killed by a man who drove his car into a massive crowd who protested against the white nationalist rally. The unfortunate incident took place in Charlottesville, Va.
Rozic was quick and defiant when it came to making bold announcements. In her opinion, parklands should reflect all of the citizens of the state and those that we can be proud of. She also added how there were many other New Yorkers who deserved the great honor of having a mega park named after them.
The famous park spans over 430 acres, situated on the border between Putnam and Westchester counties. Moreover, it sits largely underutilized since Trump donated it in 2006. He initially intended to transform it into a mega golf course championship.
Moreover, an agreement was signed in the year 2006 that clearly outlined how Donald Trump’s name be prominently displayed over every entrance gate that leads into each property.
At that time, governor of New York- George Pataki announced the mega land donation for the park, claiming it was Donald Trump’s way of giving back. Moreover, he added that Trump thoroughly wished that he would be able to turn it into one of the world’s most stunning parks.
Now, critics mentioned that they don’t expect to see any major legal challenges related to the name change, hoping for a smooth-sailing affair.
