President Donald Trump handed out 20 pardons, commutations in a pre-Christmas blitz event.
The shocking news was revealed on Tuesday, where the US president granted clemency to a total of 20 convicted felons. This includes pardons for two individuals who devised lies against counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation team. The pre-festive blitz also includes pardons for a total of two former Congress members. In the same way, it involved the commuted sentence for a third member too.
The White House confirmed the news while revealing more pardons for those convicted of other crimes.
Four more pardons were granted to military contractors, who were involved in the Iraqi massacre. Here, 17 Iraqi civilians lost their lives in the year 2007.
The incident also included two ex-border patrol agents that covered up lies when it came to their involvement in shooting down an illegal immigrant.Several citizens who were convicted for non-violent drug crimes also made the pardon list as did those who were currently serving very long sentences.
In total, President Donald Trump handed out a grand number of 15 pardons and 5 commutations, the White House confirmed.
Meanwhile, just last month, President Trump made the headlines when he pardoned the country’s ex-national security advisor, Michael Flynn.
This was in relation to him lying to the FBI.
Other than that, the President pardoned the jail sentence of his 2016 campaign adviser, Roger Stone. Shockingly, this took place just a few days before the start of the latter’s prison sentence.
One of Trump’s former allies, Chris Collins, who pleaded guilty in an inside scheme, was also pardoned as was Duncan Hunter, a former US rep. He was found guilty of stealing the campaign’s funds. Unbelievably, both of them received complete pardons.
The White House confirmed how in both instances, President Trump said yes to many requests from various members of Congress. While not too many people saw this recent pardon spree coming, it just goes to show how the President wishes to begin the festive holiday on a positive note.
