Donald Trump spoke to Fox News on Sunday and made some startling claims about the Capitol Riot that took place on January 6th.
The former US President told mentioned through the Fox News interview how he requested for 10,000 National Guard troops to take center stage in Washington DC, before the MAGA rally on January 6th. And when questioned why, he claimed that he had a strong feeling that his supporters would show up in numbers that were greater than originally anticipated.
However, the former president explained how his request was rejected because congressional leaders such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not like the ‘optics’ of troops entering the Capitol.
Trump brushed off the statement by exclaiming how that was possibly one big mistake. “So you know, that was a huge mistake.”
In the same way, Donald Trump also added in his newest defense for the January 6th Capitol Riot how he was not watching the misery unfold on television as many media houses reported. The former president said that he didn’t take a seat back and relax while his supporters stormed into the Capitol building.
When the incident took place, Trump explained how he immediately reacted, as soon as his top aides informed him of the deadly ongoing attack that took place on January 6th in DC.
Instead, the president went on to talk about how he was more focused on his ‘lovefest’ rally that was going on before the Capitol Riot violence began.
Trump boldly added how he felt the presence of National Guard troops in DC on standby was quintessential and hence insisted on their deployment in DC. Also, he told Fox’s host Steve Hilton how he believes his request was rejected because other Congressional leaders did not like the idea of troops storming into DC.
Just last month, another ex-White House chief of staff mentioned to Fox how Trump paved way for direct order of 10,000 national guard troops ready, right before his rally on January 6th.
