Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale posted on his twitter a photo of Air Force One flying over the crowd at the Daytona 500.
In his tweet, he said, “@realDonaldTrump won the #Daytona500 before the race even started,” together with a photo of Air Force One soaring above the Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
Unfortunately, he mistakenly used a photo from George Bush’s visit to the Daytona 500 back on 2004.
The tweet stayed up for about three hours and managed to gather more than 6,700 retweets and 23,000 likes before it was taken down.
Twitter users were quick to point out his mistake, like Voice of America’s Steve Herman, who replied to Parscale’s tweet stating that the photo in question is from the George W. Bush presidency.
The photo was taken by photographer Jonathan Ferrey when Bush visited the racetrack back on February 15, 2004.
In an interview, Ferrey said, “I have a lot of talented colleagues photographing the Daytona 500 this year. I am unfortunately not there today, but apparently I won the Daytona 500 photography before the race even started.”
Parscale deleted the said tweet shortly after and replaced it with the same caption but with a less dramatic but an accurate photo of the Air Force One hovering over the stadium.
Trump appeared at the event as the grand marshal at the NASCAR race.
During the pre-race announcement, Trump told the stadium, “My fellow race fans, there’s no greater thrill than to join you at the world center of races for the 62nd Daytona 500.”
“NASCAR fans never forget that no matter who wins the race, what matters most is God, family, and country,” he added.
He went together with First Lady Melania Trump, and also did a 2.5-mile circuit lap before the race, using the presidential limo known as “The Beast.”
