A Toyko Olympics official received great criticism after his shameful comments about a plus-size celebrity from Japan went viral.
According to local media outlets, the official who belonged to the Tokyo Olympics committee made heads turn when he referred to one of the country’s famous celebrities as an ‘Olympig.’ After receiving great criticism for his shameful actions, he opted to apologize and step down from his position.
Moreover, his departure comes just one month after the President of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee also stepped down. He indulged a sexist battle by referring to women as chatterboxes who are only good at talking too much at meetings.
Hiroshi Sasaki stepped down from his post as the creative direction for the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies on Thursday.
The way he envisioned the country’s famed celebrity comedian and plus-size fashion designer was absolutely appalling for many. Moreover, reports confirmed how he spoke about how Naomi Watanabe would appear in pig ears while tumbling down from the sky as the Tokyo Olympics messenger.
The 66-year-old shared the disgraceful idea with his colleagues around one year back but one local Japanese magazine broke the story a day before.
In response to this incident and another that involved 83-year-old Yoshiro Mori who gained equal criticism for terming women as speaking too much during meetings, the country has been scrambling.
Moreover, the committees handling the Olympics worked hard to try and get more and more women into leading positions, just months before the games begin.
And that is to rectify the poor image of the ‘old men’s club’ too.Meanwhile, critics believe that Mr.
Sasaki’s immediate resignation was in great contrast to the departure of Mr.
Mori. While the latter did apologize for his rather sexist comment, he did declare initially how he would not resign from his post. In the same way, none of the country’s leading government officials demanded his resignation either.
