Yoshiro Mori’s resignation doesn’t come as a huge surprise to many in the country, where such comments have become a norm in today’s world. However, many people are quite glad that the leading head of the organizing committee is stepping down, exactly 7 days after a wave of backlash surrounded him.

Mori made some very ‘sexist remarks’ but now, experts believe that his actions aren’t being viewed as a victory for the nation. According to critics, Yoshiro Mori’s resignation has only taken place because foreign media and activists raised awareness on the case. Had it not been for them, it would probably go by unnoticed, mentioned a few experts.

83-year-old Mori claimed in a committee meeting, held on the 5th of this month, how women talk a bit too much. “If we were to actually raise the number of female board members, we must ensure that their speaking time is also somewhat restricted as they have trouble in finishing, which is really annoying,” he claimed.

Mori served as the country’s prime minister, reigning between 2000 to 2001. He is reported to have apologized for his actions, the very next day. However, he clearly outlined how he didn’t have any plans on resigning from his leading position as the boss.

One critic mentioned how many politicians and influential individuals go about saying things left and right, before thinking. And they usually never resign too! Clearly, she was wrong as the leader has stepped down. But if you think the decision came easy, you might need to rethink that notion.

After putting forward his resignation, Mori went ahead and defended his actions and poor choice of words. He added how he worked throughout his career, supporting women from all over. Hence, now he feels is the right time to step down as he doesn’t want any form of hindrance to the Games in July.
