In Italy, Francesco Prestia Lamberti was shot twice in the chest and left for dead in an olive field.
The killer, 15-year-old Alex Pititto turned himself in.
Alex is the son of Ndrangheta mafia boss Salvatore Pititto, who is also known as El Tio or the Uncle, reports said.
Apparently, Francesco liked a photo of Alex’s girlfriend on Facebook and this drove him to shot Francesco dead on the chest.
Alex had long believed that Francesco had feelings for his girlfriend, and liking her picture was an ultimate mark of a lack of respect, Mirror reported.
“Friendship is in my mouth to many but in the heart of few,” one of Pititto’s social media posts reads.
Alex’s father, mother, brother, and cousin were arrested during a police crackdown on mafia operations.
Local reports said that there are roughly 6,000 members in the Ndrangheta mafia group.
The group is centered in Calabria and became the most powerful crime syndicate in Italy in the 1990s and 2000s. Their business of drug smuggling, extortion, and money laundering once accounted for three percent of Italy’s GDP in 2010, a US diplomat said.
Francesco’s death leads his friends to post on his Facebook timeline to gave their final respect and tribute to the man whose life was cut short because of jealousy.
“You can now live the best of your days, with the hope that one day you’ll reach your goal, what was your dream,” one friend posted. “There are no words to describe a friend like you, confident and always ready to help in times of need. It all happened so fast, you left so quickly.”
Local reports said that thousands of people attended his funeral at the Basilica Cathedral.
