A teacher is going viral for making the most shocking anti-Asian gesture during her online class on Zoom recently.
Nichole Burkett works as a Spanish teacher as well as the adviser for the class of 2022 in Grant Union High School in Sacramento. But little did anyone know of her racist thoughts and beliefs until now.
Media reports confirmed how the teacher made a daringly insensitive call by choosing to perform anti-Asian gestures in front of her online class last week. Moreover, the shocking video went viral after the incident where viewers can see the teacher doing the unthinkable.
Here, Nichole intentionally narrows her eyes during the class to show her audience how she perceives the Asian community.
Right after her insensitive actions, she also decides to blurt out some of the most heartless comments to her student audience.
“If your eyes go up then you’re a Chinese and if they happen to go down, then you’re a Japanese. However, if they just look straight, then you don’t know.
”On that note, one student got highly offended by the Spanish teacher’s actions. And that’s when he threatens to leave the class, right after she finishes her heartless performance. “I should leave your class right now!” he boldly exclaims.
Meanwhile, a statement was issued by the Sacramento Bee, Twin Rivers United School District’s spokesperson who called the video highly appalling as well as disappointing.
Moreover, they added how the district has now opened up a probe into figuring out what went wrong with the teacher and why she was behaving this way.
The spokesperson went on to claim how the teacher’s actions did not go in line with the values held by the educational system.
In addition, the spokesperson mentioned how the ultimate goal is to provide students with a safe as well as a civilized learning environment where dignity and respect is the ultimate theme.
“We do not tolerate any form of racism from any member of our school community either.”
The shocking incident comes after a recent wave of racist assaults targeted the Asian community in California as well as other parts of the country.
