A horrifying video went viral showing a Black Jazz musician’s son being falsely accused of stealing a white woman’s iPhone.
Prosecutors from New York City explain how they’re investigating the event where a Black musician’s 14-year-old son was under attack by a white woman. The harrowing footage shows the woman attacking the young teen for stealing her phone.
The black teen’s father, Trumpeter Keyon Harrold, put up the video on social media, which he shot with his own phone. Here, viewers witness the woman making bold claims against his son on Saturday. The event took place at the famous Arlo SoHo Boutique Hotel.
Media reports confirm how Harrold and his son were guests at the private hotel, situated in lower Manhattan. While the exact ethnicity of the woman remains unclear, New York police officers described her as being White.
Meanwhile, the hotel’s management termed the white woman’s accusations as absolutely baseless. In addition, they labeled her words and actions as extreme prejudice as well as an ‘assault against an innocent guest.’
In the same way, the prominent Jazz trumpeter took out time to speak at a recent news conference as well as a rally, held near New York City Hall’s steps. The musician came accompanied by Ben Crump, who is a prominent civil rights attorney. He also followed it up with a rendition of ‘We Shall Overcome’ and ‘America the Beautiful.’
Harold explains how he also suffered from racial profiling, throughout his life.
Therefore, this wasn’t something new for him.In addition, the father added how he’s grateful that he was with his son, during the racist incident.
And that’s because had he not been there, things could have ended ‘wrongly. ’Harold also added how he wishes and wants his son to grow up whole. Meanwhile, the teen’s mother blames the hotel’s management too. She feels that they could have done more to de-escalate the situation. Moreover, she added how they made no attempts at preventing the accuser from leaving before cops arrived.
Therefore, she demands justice for her son and hopes the accuser is charged with assault. In the same way, New York’s mayor, DeBlasio also gave his two cents on the incident. He termed it as racism, plain and simple. Furthermore, he added how it’s an unacceptable act in the city as well as the country.
