The Saturday Night Live star, Michael Che, went under fire after making jokes about Caitlyn Jenner on live television.
Aside from making a transphobic joke, he also mentioned about Kanye West’s new public persona and made a comparison between the two.
Che also said that the rapper is becoming an ‘old white lady.’
“At first I thought Kanye was losing his mind, and now I feel like he’s fine, he’s just turning into an old white lady,” he said, according to People magazine.
“I mean, he used to be one of the coolest black dudes on Earth. Now he’s showing up to events in sweatpants and orthopedic sneakers, listening to Kenny G and trying to get black people to like Trump. It’s like, how long before this guy changes his name to Kathy?”
The 36-year-old host also commented on Caitlyn Jenner, who came out as trans in 2015. He called Kim Kardashian’s former step-parent a ‘fella,’ dead named her and also showed a photo of her before the transition.
“Now, you might think that I’m crazy, but about five years ago, there was a fella named Bruce Jenner, and he moved to Calabasas …” Che said.
After the episode was aired on live television, many people took to social media to express their thoughts at Che’s jokes.
One Twitter user wrote: “But, joking that Kanye was turning into a woman and then merging it with a trans person’s story turns an already stupid joke into a transphobic one. I know you don’t take offense to it, but many do. It wasn’t even funny and was awkwardly delivered.”
Another posted: “That whole joke about Kanye turning into an old white lady took a real turn… Yikes, Michael Che.”
A third said: “Caitlyn Jenner jokes in 2019. Keep crushing it, SNL. Truly innovative stuff from Michael Che.”
