An aspiring rapper who went by Pop Smoke’s stage name was killed during a home invasion early Wednesday.
According to law enforcement reports the rapper, 20, was at his Hollywood Hills, Calif. house. As two men who had masks covering their faces broke in at 4:30 am and fired several gunshots.
The rapper has reportedly been taken to West Hollywood’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after the incident, where he was later declared dead.
Police are still seeking suspects and it’s uncertain whether the young rapper knew the criminals. One man whose name has not been released was released from custody after investigators found he had no link to the crimes.
The rapper was preparing for his “Meet The Woo Tour” starting in March, according to the verified Instagram account of the young performer. The rapper shared about several of his shows that were already sold out just a week before his death.
Pop Smoke from Brooklyn, New York City, joined the music scene for the first time in 2019 with his title track “Welcome to the party”.
He recently released an album titled “Meet The Woo 2” and has collaborated with Travis Scott. Nicki Minaj also did a remix of his song “Welcome to the Party” months after its initial release.
His songs, Mpr, Flexin and Dior also caught and the limelight and were among his hit songs.
Along with Welcome to the Party’s success, he also went on to work on tracks with a variety of other successful artists, such as in War Lil Tjay was featured, and 100k on a Coupé featured Calboy.
In December, last year, the rapper featured, Gatti with Jackboys, and this was featured on the JackBoys album.
Pop Smoke released his second mixtape Meet the Woo 2 earlier this month which featured Quavo guest slots, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Fivio Foreign and Lil Tjay. A deluxe edition also fell in the week after its release featuring three new songs: Wolves with Nav, Dior with Gunna (Remix), and Like Me with PnB Rock.
When the news of Pop smoke’s death broke a tweet came from US hip hop artist Big Fareedia: “Rip Pop Smoke ppl don’t value life bruh they take so much for granted, hope they catch them, prayers to his family and friends and fans this is crazy”.
