The crowd at the airport was forced into the basement after a positive Corona case was reported.
All the individuals present at the airport were immediately quarantined after officials ordered airport-wide testing. The Shanghai Pudong Internation Airport turned into a mess as people started running out of fear. The Hazmat suit-clad staff was filmed, forcing the crowd into the Airport’s basement. The mass testing decision sparked after a close contact of staff members was reported with corona positive patients.
People were afraid to be put in 14 days of isolation as per the government’s instruction. Thus, everyone tried to escape, which initiated a scuffle and shoving among the airport staff and people. Hundreds of people rushed outside, but the officials wearing plastic face shields managed to stop them.
Several video clips and pictures were shared on Twitter filming the crowd trying to flee away from the airport. A clip shows people climbing the walls and pushing each other to avoid quarantine. Someone wrote, “There are more than 100000 travelers here, and we can not leave without getting tested.”
Authorities decided to initiate mass test immediately. The officers ushered the crowd into a multi-story car park for covid-19 testing. More than 17700 people were tested, and so far, 11 thousand tests have come negative. Officials announced to provide corona vaccine to the workers with high-risk jobs.
