Texas Southern University Announces A Full Scholarship To George Floyd’s 6-years Old Daughter


Texas Southern University, on early Wednesday, announced in a tweet that it will give a full fee scholarship to George Floyd’s 6-years old daughter Gianna when she is college-aged.

According to the tweet, The Board of TSU has approved a fund for a full fee scholarship for Miss Floyd to honor the memory of George Floyd. The staff and executive will arrange a place for her if she accepts the offer.

This offer was made as Houston mourned the death of George Floyd, who was murdered by a white cop as he knelt on Floyd’s knee for 8-minutes. This happened on the same day as Floyd’s memorial in Houston was being held in the company of notable black leaders like Martin Luther King III, Rev.

Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. The funeral was packed with other Black people who lost their beloveds in the discriminatory violent acts by White racists. They all paid their respect to George Floyd.

Floyd was born in NC but grew up in the Third Ward of Houston, known as the historically Black neighborhood, just across the street from TSU. Texas Southern University is known for being the most famous Black college in the city.

As per the information, the scholarship offered to Gianna is privately funded but the name of the donator is not being disclosed by the university administration.

NBA player Stephen Jackson, an old friend of George Floyd, shared a video of little Gianna in which she is seen expressing her joy saying ‘my daddy changed the world’.

Albert H Myres, Chair of TSU board of Regents, believes this small act of the university cannot take the presence of her father but it hopefully will contribute to easing her journey ahead.

He further says that the board of TSU is committed to prevailing education in society and reckons that educational degrees are significant in living a successful and happy life.
