San Diego teachers have now been given the option to teach migrant children from Mexico instead of regular American students.
According to media reports, the teachers have the opportunity to make a selection based on their own personal decision and priority basis. Therefore, they have been given the freedom to choose between replacing their usual routine work shifts at American schools with shifts that would entail migrant kids in person.
Moreover, the latter would involve carrying out personal, one-on-one teaching sessions with the migrants at the San Diego convention center, as mentioned by local media outlets.
On the other hand. a recent survey showed how there are now currently 700 unaccompanied migrant kids who are being housed at the convention center. At the moment, there are a few teachers from the US that are carrying out their teaching duties on the basis of voluntary efforts to help instill the students with in-person lessons.
The news comes despite reports suggesting the high rates of COVID-19 among plenty of migrant children. Now, SDCOE students are gaining on their lessons through a modern online-only format. Soon, the kids will move towards a more hybrid model on the 12th of April. Here is where they will be learning more through a combo of online formats, alongside in-person teaching lessons too. This piece of news was confirmed by the school district’s website recently.
In the same way, the school spoke about how its teachers have been recently asked to make a choice between carrying on with their regular routine teaching duties with American students or pursuing the interest of working at convention center sites.

She questioned why and how anyone would be ready and willing to volunteer in that dire situation, putting the American students at risk as COVID-19 is still at its peak.
