A QAnon believer who stormed the US Capitol wearing a horned helmet and fur will be given organic meals after refusing to eat while in custody.
Jake Angeli, 33, who also goes by the name Jacob Chansley or QAnon Shaman, made his first court appearance on Monday after he was arrested for being part of the mob on Wednesday, January 6.
His lawyer, Gerald Williams, said that Angeli was refusing to eat while behind bars because of his extremely restrictive diet consisting solely of organic food, believed to be for religious reasons.
US Marshals had been ordered by Arizona Magistrate Judge Deborah Fine to work with his attorney to resolve the issue
“We will abide by the judge’s order,” Arizona US Marshal David Gonzales said in an interview, and confirmed that Angeli will be provided meals that meets his high dietary restrictions.
Angeli’s mother, Martha Chansley, said after the court hearing that her son “gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food.”
She also defended his son’s actions while he was still wanted by authorities.
“It takes a lot of courage to be a patriot, OK, and to stand up for what it is that you believe,” she said.
“Not everybody wants to be the person upfront.”
The Arizona resident was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and with violet entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
He did not make any statements regarding the charges against him during his court appearance.
Angeli was one of the most prominent people seen inside Congress during the suspected insurrection attempt.
He also frequently appeared at right-wing rallies spouting wild claims and support for Donald Trump’s baseless cries about election results.
His belief, the QAnon conspiracy theory, alleges Democrats and high-profile Hollywood celebrities are involved in a “deep state” of political control and child sex trafficking.
