Brad Pitt opened Saturday Night Live in a surprise appearance as he played Dr.
Anthony Fauci.
Earlier this month, host Alisyn Camerota asked Fauci who does he want to play him on SNL, in which he laughed while answering, “Oh, Brad Pitt, of course.”
This is the Hollywood actor’s answer to the health director’s wish, and Pitt did not disappoint.
Pitt opened the show as Dr. Fauci, with a nod to how popular the latter has become by saying, “Good evening, I’m Dr. Anthony Fauci. First, I’d like to thank all the older women in America who have sent me supportive, inspiring and sometimes graphic emails.”
The actor as Fauci then interprets President Donald Trump’s declaration on the science of the deadly coronavirus, and continued by stating how the President, “has taken some liberties with our guidelines. So tonight, I’d like to explain what the president was trying to say. And remember, let’s all keep an open mind.”
The sketch started by answering the President’s claim about the development of the coronavirus vaccine, in which Trump referred to as “relatively soon,” as the actor says:
“Relatively soon is an interesting phrase. Relative to the entire history of earth, sure, the vaccine is going to come real fast. But if you were going to tell a friend, ‘I’ll be over relatively soon’ and then showed up a year and a half later, well, your friend may be relatively pissed off. ”
He then continued with Trump’s claim that the coronavirus would suddenly disappear “like a miracle,” by answering it with, “A miracle would be great! Who doesn’t love miracles? But miracles shouldn’t be Plan A.”
Pitt’s Fauci also pointed out that unless he’s fired, he will be there to straighten the facts to those who are listening.
“When I hear things like the virus can be cured if everyone takes the Tide Pod Challenge, I’ll be there to say, ‘please don’t,” he remarked.
Pitt ended his piece by removing his wig and glasses, and put out a serious message for the viewers.
“And to the real Dr. Fauci, thank you for your calm and your clarity in this unnerving time, and thank you to the medical workers, first responders and their families for being on the front line.”
