In Queensland the drivers who are caught illegally parking in spots reserved for disabled people will eventually face serious penalties as fines for illegal parking are doubled.
The Citizens are going to experience some of the country’s hardest parking fines as those fines may rise from $266 to $533 by mid-2020.
Well, Parking at disabled spaces must be avoided as they are specifically reserved for disabled people without noticing just park their vehicles in the restricted area.
The reform will also see an extra 18,000 Queenslanders will be made willing to apply for a permit as thousands of people with vision impairment are lobbied to be included in the program.
In Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and Australia blind people can have an access to the disability parking spaces but in Queeensland the rule is opposite where the authorities grant permit to the visually impaired people and are unable to walk, doubly disabled though!
Minister of Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey told the government’s Courier Mail that there are still spaces to satisfy the additional demand.
The authorities however, said that they felt,they had to bring the message home that it is unethical to take up areas designated for disabled people. ‘
Vision-impaired queenslanders and their caretakers have expressed with me their narratives of how difficult it can be to navigate packed car parking spaces. According to them this law has made the parking rules difficult for them.
They thought their condition was overlooked by the current laws that were enacted in 1998 and have questioned the assessment.
They further added,’t seems that the authorities as well as the community do not support us.
“If you do it you will pay dearly for it”.
‘The changes were common sense’ Minister for Communities, Services for Disability, and Seniors Coralee O’Rourke said.
