A viral TikTok trend divided parents all over the world, with some calling it as “cruel”, while others dismiss it as a harmless prank.
For the challenge, mothers are jokingly spilling water over their babies to capture their surprise on video, along with the track Ah Eh – Always a Queen.
One of the video clips that went viral came from Mikayla Matthews, a 20-year-old mother of two from Utah, and her TikTok video was viewed 1.1 million times with 144,000 likes.
It seems Matthews learned her lesson pretty quickly, as she wrote the caption, “I’m never doing a TikTok trend again” on the video.
Another video came from Tia, who clarified in her video with her son, “no babies were harmed in this video.”
In her 10-second video clip entry, her son was caught in a surprise in his life as he was seen almost jumping from the water spilled by her mom.
But it seems not every child was upset in this prank, as seen on the video posted by Colleen Ballinger where her son is seen delighted with the water surprise.
While the trend gave followers a laugh with all the cute reactions caught on video, some thinks this trend is just “mean and cruel”.
“Poor baby the water is probably cold!” said one commenter, while another posted, “I feel like the water went in her eye the second time so it probably hurt more.”
Another commented posted, “I don’t like this trend at all, all the kids get really upset over it. Not funny”
Some of the mothers who joined the TikTok trend defended the prank and insisted that it is harmless.
“I thought they’d laugh honestly… But one usually cries every 17 minutes about something anyway, so what’s one more time for a TikTok?” said Marlena while apologizing.
Another parent said, “I know, I felt bad too. But I promise they were fine and laughed about it after.”
