Heartbreaking footage was captured in Colombia, where a dog was chasing a car after being abandoned at the side of the road.

  

The incident was captured on 15th August by bystanders, where a dog tried to chase the owner’s car after being dumped at the side of the road in Fontibon, a Bogotá suburb, Colombia. 

The clip shows a car driven away at full speed, leaving the dog behind at the side of the road.

On which the dog got confused, and starts running behind the vehicle.  As the dog was running after the car, onlookers whistles at the vehicle to stop, but the owner ignores them, and drives away. 

 

The clip went viral and sparked a lot of public uproar on social media. People were eager to know about the condition of the dog. 

Some people wanted to help, and some were ready to take the dog in if needed. But it is still unclear what happened to the dog after being dumped at the side of the road.

In 2019, over a million animals were abandoned in Colombia, according to the Institute for Animal Protection and Welfare.

To fight against animal abandonment, Colombia Congress passed a bill in June.  According to law, a person can get penalties for harmful acts and cruelty against animals. The fine can go up to 43.9 million COP (£8,860). Along with other measures, animal welfare centers have been created all around the country.

A similar incident happened in, Vancouver, Washington, where a dog named Henry, was jilted by the female owner. The owner was walking her dog in a wooded area, and rushed back to her vehicle, leaving the dog behind. Fortunately, Henry is in the care of the Southwest Washington Humane Society.

According to Animal Protection and Control, the female owner who dumped her dog has been charged with animal cruelty.
