The former veteran police officer who shot and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright has been arrested and will face manslaughter charges.
Just recently, authorities made the breakthrough announcement after the veteran cop stepped down and resigned from the Minnesota police department yesterday, followed by the police chief who made the same decision of resigning. The decision wasn’t a major surprise for many as an immense amount of pressure surrounded the case with many demanding the firing of the cop.
Reports confirmed how Kim Porter was seen on bodycam footage where she shoots and kills the 20-year-old during a traffic stop, located in Brooklyn Center in Minnesota. As you can probably imagine, the incident sparked great outrage and protests by the community, leading to an immense amount of unrest across the board.
Potter, the 26-year Veteran cop of Brooklyn Center’s Police Department will now be charged on account of second degree of manslaughter, which was in connection to Daunte Wright’s death, mentioned Washington County’s Attorney Pete Orput.
Moreover, he also revealed how the charge carries a maximum sentence of around 10 years of imprisonment as reported by the Associated Press recently.
Potter was arrested during the early hours of Wednesday by the state’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, where she was expected to get booked into Hennepin County’s jail.
Meanwhile, since the killing incident took place in Minnesota, the case was however sent to Washington County as prosecutors under the policy of police killing which was adopted by the state last year.
The veteran cop resigned her police badge yesterday morning, which was followed by the resignation of Brooklyn Center’s Police Chief too after the shocking incident led to a widespread wave of protests across the state.
Now, the police department is reportedly under the control of Mayor Mike Elliot who has recently been appointed as the new acting police chief.
