Former US President Barack Obama revealed his thoughts on reparations for Black Americans during a recent podcast.
The 59-year-old spoke on how reparations for the Blacks was totally justified but went on explaining during his podcast with Bruce Springsteen how it was actually a non-starter during his reign as president of the country. And he blamed that upon the great ‘White Resistance.’
Barack Obama made the shocking claims during his live podcast with rock star Bruce Springsteen where he spoke on some very private matter relating to his family, work, and race.
Obama mentioned how he appeared to oppose the reparations during his 2008 US election campaign, arguing how the best reparation that he can aid in providing comprised of great schools in the inner parts of the city, followed by jobs for all those that are unemployed.
The 59-year-old launched a mega 8 episode long podcast series with the title: ‘Renegades: Born in the USA,’ with rock legend Bruce Springsteen. Moreover, the series is actually a partnership between Spotify and the former president’s Higher Ground production house.
Meanwhile, the second episode primarily focused upon Obama and Springsteen talking about race relations in the country.
When Springsteen questioned the 59-year-old about how he felt that reckoning was being called for in the US, right before asking the ex-president if the nation is now prepared to seek reparations. For those who don’t know, reparations are types of payments as well as programs that are created to assist descendants of those involved in slavery.
To that question, Obama firmly replied with a yes. Next, he began talking about how he felt that the wealth of this nation and even a great part of its majority and power was built on the backs of the slaves.
Obama also strongly felt that even after the great formal end to slavery, there was a great deal of systemic oppression as well as discrimination towards Black Americans under the leadership of Jim Crow.
Keeping that in mind, the former president claimed that fighting for the justice of Blacks as president of the US was simply not attainable practically.
