The woman raised her voice against Byron Bay on Christmas Day for serving her mother a meal that consisted of wilted lettuce, few ham slices, some tomato, and melted cheese. She shared clicks of the unappetizing holiday lunch on Facebook as a means of expressing her anger.

It came captioned with, ‘Sadly this is the meal given to aged care residents for Christmas lunch,’ she wrote. In the same way, she commented on how her mum simply couldn’t stand glaring at it, let alone think about eating it.

Meanwhile, the daughter explains how she simply couldn’t believe her eyes. And just like that, she asked social media users to comment on their thoughts and opinions regarding the matter.

One internet user commented on how disgusted they felt, just looking at her Christmas meal. “The staff would never eat that garbage so why would they serve such garbage in the first place.”

Another person commented on how unappealing the meal appeared, with particular reference to the dull colors involved. They ended their comment with how terrible the whole experience must be for someone in a care home.

On the other hand, one female commented on how the meal just wasn’t fit for anyone. This is especially during the most special occasion of the year, Christmas day. And that’s when she went on to describe it as just awful and an appearance that looked like table scraps.

But one internet user did claim how it could be in line with the elderly’s dietary requirements, hence avoided commenting too much on the issue.

Meanwhile, the reason why such issues seem to be blown out of proportion has to do with the recent issues regarding sub-standard care home foods. This became highlighted at the Royal Commission for Aged Care-Quality and Safety recently.

The latest research shows how around 40% of the aged care residents suffer from all forms of neglect, physical abuse, and emotional abuse too.
