A married nurse couple working on the front-lines of the coronavirus pandemic have seized hearts during a frustrating morning with a snapshot of themselves holding each other.
Both nurse anesthetists at a Tampa hospital, Ben Cayer and Mindy Brock, peered through their defensive barriers and gazed each other’s eyes in. Captured by a co-worker, the heart-warming moment has since gone viral and motivated thousands of people around the globe.
‘Everyone is discussing the video,’ Cayer said. It hits a nerve ‘that at the moment we are all going through the same thing and it is a sign of hope and love.’
“All is important is that we live together, that we work together and that we love one another always. So not just Ben and I but the entire human race right now, “Associated Press quoted Ben.
Ben continued that he and his wife did not even once hesitate to volunteer at the ‘airway unit’ of Tampa General Hospital.
Earlier in 2007 the pair met in a nurse anesthesia school for the first time. They tied the knot in 2015 after dating for several years.
The Florida couple shares a family, a career, and now a mission — shouldering the high-risk task of inserting breathing tubes in surgical victims, whatever could have COVID-19.
Cayer said they did not think twice about volunteering service with the new ‘airway team’ at Tampa General Hospital.
Simply putting a tube through a patient’s throat and down through their airways involves direct contact — and the maximum degree of safety protection as the infection spreads in droplets.point 391 |
The hospital marked nurses down to a minimum for intubations before surgery in order to save equipment and expose fewer healthcare personnel.point 120 | 1
The photo of the two holding one another was captured during surgeries. They agreed that they all were stressed about the news COVID-19 procedures were roaming . “All those little stuff we’ve been talking over this morning, are not this important in the grand scheme of life,” Mindy said.
While treating patients at the hospital, the pair even had to take care of their family members who had tested positive. However Ben says he is not much concerned about getting ill, so he wants to continue his work.
