Naya Rivera’s autopsy report confirmed that the actress had died of accidental drowning.
However, the possibility of traumatic injury, alcohol, or drugs was ruled out.
The autopsy’s findings were released by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office, later this Tuesday. It confirmed that the body located on Monday was indeed that of the 33-year-old actress.
Rivera’s cause of death was listed as an accident.
The released report claimed:
‘The circumstances and visual characteristics all indicated that the body was that of Naya Rivera and the identity has been confirmed by dental comparison.’
‘The autopsy findings are consistent with drowning and the condition of the body is consistent with the time that she was submerged.’
‘No traumatic injuries or disease processes were identified at autopsy.’
‘There is no indication from the investigation or examination that drugs or alcohol played a role in the decedent’s death but specimens will be submitted for toxicology testing.’
The famous Glee star’s body was located on Monday, from the northeast part of Lake Piru, which is situated just 50 miles from Los Angeles. The celeb had gone missing last week.
Bill Ayub, Ventura County Sheriff, confirmed that there was no sign of any foul play or death by suicide.
Rivera’s family released a statement after the autopsy confirmation on Tuesday, during which they paid tribute to the star as a ‘sassy angel’ and a pure ‘magnetic spirit.’
The family thanked everyone for their love and support with the following statement:
‘We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers for Naya, Josey, and our family over the past week.’
‘While we grieve the loss of our beautiful legend, we are blessed to honor her everlasting legacy and magnetic spirit. Naya was an amazing talent but was an even greater person, mother, daughter, and sister.’
The star went missing on July 8th, during a boating trip with her young 4-year-old son Josey. A search and rescue operation was declared after her son was located asleep on a boat alone, in the center of the lake. Similarly, there was no trace of his mother.
Reports claimed that the young son stated that his mother never went back on the boat when they left for a swim. And that was when Naya’s family rushed to the lake to assist in the rescue and search operation.
The Sheriff’s office claimed they suspected ‘that the winds kicked up,’ causing the boat to getaway. They also explained the possibility of how Naya might have attempted to swim. But these are all speculations and the investigations are still underway.
