A young police officer lost his life after responding to a domestic violence call response on Sunday.
The shocking incident took place in South Carolina during an intense gunfire exchange.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed how the incident took place after the officer responded to the domestic call.
South Carolina’s law enforcement division announced the details of the tragic incident via a statement. Here, they claimed how two officers got injured during the firing. Unfortunately, one lost his life while the other received minor injuries. Thankfully, his wounds aren’t life-threatening.
On the other hand, witnesses confirmed how they heard a loud series of gunshots around the late hours of the night. And that’s when police announced that a shooting involving an officer took place.
Myrtle Beach’s Police Chief identified Jacob Hancher as the man who lost his life in the tragic incident. Hancher served as a community officer for 4 years. However, he was currently working as a patrol officer right now. This was his first year.
Certainly, it was an unfortunate incident to see a man give up his life in the line of duty. The police chief announced how Hancher becomes the first Myrtle Beach officer to lose his life on duty, since the year 2002.
Meanwhile, the chief also acknowledged his bravery, claiming him to be a very dedicated public servant. Moreover, he upheld his oath while trying to protect the community. And that was one of the ultimate sacrifices ever.
The incident sparked major unrest, with plenty of viewers watching from their hotel balconies. Similarly, dozens of police vehicles entered the scene as reports regarding the gunfire started coming in.
Two witnesses explained how they walked outside when the loud gunfire began. They wanted to see what was going on. They saw the police escorting another limping officer. Soon an ambulance arrived to pick up the injured officer, seated near a fire hydrant.
Hancher leaves behind his mom, dad, stepmother, sister as well as other step-siblings. The kind-hearted soul was also a volunteer firefighter too.
