A British woman gave birth to a child earlier than expected in the US, and the hospital hit her with a whopping £75k bill.
Amy Collins had to fly back to the UK to give birth to little William Collins on December 13 but the premature birth paid to the plan, and she went through an emergency C-section. The British mum from Birmingham gave birth to a 24 weeks child who is currently under the special care of the hospital staff and weighs just 1 lb 9 ozs. Amy delivered the baby on December 11 at Cook Children’s Medical Centre in Texas. She has another daughter, Ava Collins, who is seven-year-old.
The 30-year-old had no insurance and is racked with a hospital bill of £75000, which is expected to increase as the child is still under the care of the hospital staff.
The grandmother of the tiny Willian Collins from Bartley Green expressed her anxiety and said she is worried sick. She added that her grandson is a strong warrior and is doing well, but she is scared to death as they have been hit with a £100,000 hospital bill.
The grandmother showed her grieve, saying they wouldn’t have been treated this way in the UK. “Paying the bills is looking like a nightmare. The baby would have to stay in the hospital for months, and if this continues, the medical bill will exceed thousands of pounds. How will we clear them?” said Sarah Covey, 48.
Amy married Greg Collins, a Texan engineer, last year after a 3-year-long affair. The couple was introduced to each other via an online application.
People all over social media showed their sympathies for the lady. However, few said she should have insured correctly as she lives on and off in America. One of the women said traveling without insurance when you are pregnant is a “next level idiocy.
”
