A 42-year-old mother is going to jail after faking her ovarian cancer so well-wishers could fund her expensive and luxe lifestyle.
According to media reports, the woman faked her illness so she could set up a GoFundMe account where generous and kind-hearted people would donate huge sums of money. Local news outlets confirmed how Nickole Elkabbas came up with the fundraiser idea, claiming she needed money for her treatment.
However, she was never ever diagnosed with the illness in the first place. Instead, she made use of the mega £52,000 fortune that she raised to pay for her lavish lifestyle.
Thankfully, the con mom wasn’t too successful with her plans. And that’s when authorities confronted her and immediately arrested her. Today, she is in jail and will serve a term comprising of 2 years and 9 months in total.
After receiving charitable funds from her GoFundMe account, the mum would then transfer the money into her own personal bank account. But what exactly did she use the money for, in the first place.
Well, everything and anything related to the world of splurging and grandeur. This includes her gambling addiction, mounting debts, massive shopping sprees, luxe trips to Barcelona and Rome, and a £3600 luxury box for a football game too.
The mom is originally from Broadstairs in Kent. Pictured donning a black-toned overcoat, polka dot scarf, face mask, and pricey possessions in her Asda bag- she left Canterbury’s Crown Court in Kent, after receiving orders for immediate imprisonment.
After a massively long court deliberation, lasting 11 hours, the jury declared her guilty of fraud and false representation. And that was just so she could receive money for her treatment from February to August 2018.
The judge added how shameful her behavior was making a major impact on society as a whole. Moreover, he talked about how there are some really needy people out there who desperately need crowdfunding. And with those charitable donations, they are able to pass by helplessly dire days.
‘Cases like yours create mistrust amongst charitable-minded members of the public,” he concluded.
