A Texas mother was caught on camera as she tackles a man she caught looking into her 15-year-old daughter’s window.
Phyllis Pena said she returned from the store to her home in Lake Jackson at 7am, when she found a man in her yard, peeking intro her daughter’s bedroom window.
Although her daughter was not in the room at that time, Pena’s maternal instincts kicked in hard, prompting her to immediately call the cops.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Zane Hawkins, ran away as soon as the officers arrived at the scene.
“First instinct was just to make sure he didn’t go any further,” she explained in an interview.
In the dashcam video, Pena was seen preparing to tackle Hawkins as he tried to run past her, and she succeeded to pin him to the ground.
Her daughter followed soon after, to help Pena keep Hawkins on the ground until the cops could catch up.
“The cop fist-bumped me and he was like, ‘Hey, so I heard the Texans are looking for a new linebacker,’” she shared.
“It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themself in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody,” said Lake Jackson Police Sergeant Roy Welch.
Pena also shared the encounter on her Facebook page, and in the caption she joked, “The video everyone has been waiting for. My next step is to try out for the NFL.”
According to Pena, she did not know Hawkins personally, but her children does.
Hawkins was booked into jail, and charged of possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest and resisting arrest.
