Space Force celebrated its first anniversary on Friday, December 20, where the Vice-President announced that its members would be known as Guardians.
Many people think that the movie “Guardian of the Galaxy” had inspired the administration to assign the title ‘Guardian’ to the Space Force personnel. The government has though denied all such claims and said the title has a long history. The US Space Force was established on Dec 20, 2019, after three years of struggle by Donald Trump.
Mike Pence made the announcement at the White House on behalf of Donald Trump during a celebration event on Friday.
He said that from now onwards, all the workers of the US Space Force, male and female, will be called ‘Guardians.
’ “Airmen, Sailors, Guardians, Marines, and Soldiers will be defending the nation for generations to come,” he added.President-elect Joe Biden, who is just a month far from getting the presidency, has not yet revealed his plans for the Space Force. The announcement was scorned and mocked on social media; still, the administration is serious about it and said the title is incited by the successful American missions to space in the past.
The Space Force official account on Twitter confirmed the news and wrote that we are honored with the title of ‘Guardians’ after one year of struggle. The government said the name is associated with a historical mission when the US forces successfully protected its people and interests by executing 24/7.
The title ‘Guardians’ immediately sparked social media users to share pictures of the superhero film series Guardians of the Galaxy.
A third sequel of the hit series by Marvel and Walter is due to be released in 2023.
In early 2020 the Trump administration was ridiculed for releasing the Space Force logo that shares many resemblances with the symbol of Starfleet, a fictional organization in the new Star Trek tv show.
