A Céline Dion superfan legally changed his name to hers after getting wasted over the holidays, and then forgot about it.
30-year-old Céline Dion — née Thomas Dodd — said that he was watching one of the singer’s performances over Christmas and drunk too much.
“She [is] my go-to person I listen to when I need cheering up,” he said.
He said he spent much of the pandemic watching concerts while at home, including one by Dion over the holiday that was accompanied by a magnum of Champagne given to him by a friend
He believes that must have been when his brain came up with the idea of changing his name.
“I honestly, hand on heart, don’t remember doing it!” he said.
“I remember watching the concert and remember getting rather tipsy.”
Days later, he found a big white envelope with ‘do not bend’ written across it, waiting for him.
“I nearly passed out in my kitchen when I opened it,” he said.
“I wasn’t aware I had done it until I found that envelope in my post. Initially, I had to sit down as I couldn’t believe it — so I then checked my bank which confirmed it all.”
“My initial concern was how on earth do I tell the HR department at work that I need to change my email footer? Now I’m thinking it could be a great way to get backstage,” he added.
The name change cost him £89 ($122), and extra certificates are £10 each.
“I’m just praying I don’t get pulled over by the police for anything – that could get awkward. More annoyingly I’ve paid for eight extra certificates to prove it,” Dion added.
Despite the blunder, he said he is in “no rush” to change his name again.
“I am slightly obsessed with her; I’m not going to lie. During lockdown, I’ve been watching a lot of live concerts on the TV. I can only think I’ve been watching one of hers and had a ‘great idea’ after a few drinks.”
