In North London, a pregnant woman was viciously assaulted in an alleyway.
A security camera recorded the horrifying incident. The video shows the man stalking the 20-year-old woman from behind before attempting to put a pillowcase over her head and punching her four times including on her stomach.
The suspect is seen fleeing after the disturbing attack which happened in the Stamford Hill area of the capital at around 6.30 pm.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the unidentified man, aged in his late 50s, was arrested at a home in Haringey and is now in custody at an East London station.
Police are still investigating the incident to establish if the attack was a hate crime as the woman— who was 27-weeks pregnant— was Jewish.
The pregnant woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the assault.
Shomrim, a neighborhood watch group from the Jewish community, shared the terrifying incident.
Shomrim has said the young pregnant victim was Jewish.
“Pregnant woman & her unborn baby survive a horrendous attack after a male suspect attacked her from behind, placed a pillow over her head & punched her in her stomach several times in a vicious unprovoked attack,” the group tweeted.
“CCTV shows the alleged suspect fleeing the scene in Stamford Hill,” the group added. “Appeal to identify an extremely dangerous fugitive who is still on the loose after CCTV captures a male viciously attacking a young pregnant woman in Stamford Hill in an unprovoked attack.”
“Shomrim volunteers have increased patrols after a recent spike in assaults on lone females.”
