Prince Philip’s heartbreaking letters for Princess Diana were recently revealed, clearly showing how hard he fought to save his son’s marriage with Diana.
According to local media outlets, Philip used to write on a regular basis to Princess Diana. This was during the time period where she was reportedly still married to his son. Moreover, inside sources go as far as mentioning how he turned into a self-obsessed and very dominant marriage counselor who gave plenty of elderly advice.
This was all in the hopes of saving the couple’s marriage. Philip reportedly mentioned to Diana how he could possibly never imagine or see anyone leaving her for Camilla.
Prince Philip passed away last week on Friday, aged 99, at Windsor Castle. He is known to have made special efforts to welcome Diana, Princess of Wales into the royal family, right after she married his son Charles in the year 1981.
However, when the royal couple’s marriage appeared to be falling apart, Philip reportedly began writing private letters to his daughter-in-law, Diana, in the hopes of acting as a savior who would prevent their breakup. For this reason, many began calling him the marriage counselor too.
On the other hand, the royal family’s former butler went on to reveal how Prince Philip did everything he could, referring to it as ‘doing more to help save the disastrous marriage.’ He is known to have played a greater role than Charles could possibly play to prevent the separation.
In one infamous letter, Prince Philip talks about how appalled he was at his son’s behavior in terms of his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles. Therefore, he even went ahead and criticized the married couple for cheating on each other.
“We do not approve of either of you cheating against one another and having separate lovers,” he added. He even stated how shocked he was to see Charles behave so irresponsibly and risk everything with his lover Camilla. “We simply never dreamed that he might feel like leaving someone like you, for someone like her,” the letter mentioned.
Clearly, the royals never had the prospect of Charles leaving Diana for Camilla and the letters were proof of that simple notion.
