The incident happened in 2019, leaving the kid with a cascade of injuries.
Additionally, his family has been ordered to pay more than £1,300 ($1,600) in damages.
Lilia Khoruzhenko, a former road safety official in the north-western Russian region of Murmansk Oblast, was driving in the Yurkino village in the Kolsky district when she smashed into the unnamed kid with her Volkswagen SUV.
As a result, Khoruzhenko didn’t suffer any injuries. Unfortunately, the unnamed kid was left with broken teeth and several injuries. While the boy successfully recovered, doctors say he’ll have to wait till the age of 25 to have his front teeth replaced.
Khoruzhenko was reportedly in charge of children’s road safety in the region she was driving in. The former official no longer holds a role in the ministry.
Shortly after the incident, the young boy’s family reportedly decided not to file any report as they were too busy on his recovery. However, for Khoruzhenko’s case, it’s different.
Following the incident, Khoruzhenko filed a lawsuit against the 12 year old for the scratches in her Volkswagen Tiguan SUV when she hit him as he rode his bike.point 256 |
As part of her claim, Khoruzhenko said that the young boy had broken traffic regulations which state that minors under the age of 14 can only ride their bikes on bike paths and pavements, not roads.point 163 | 1
Amid the commotion, the boy’s family ordered an independent examination to know the true circumstances of the accident. That investigation reportedly concluded that he was not guilty of any such violations of regulations.
However, the Kolsky’s district’s local court sided with Khoruzhenko, thereby ordering the boy’s family to pay her 120,000 RUB ($1,720) in damages.
After the ruling, the boy’s family reportedly plan to appeal the court’s decision, but there have been no further updates regarding their progress. Khoruzhenko hasn’t commented publicly on the case.
