Kyle Rittenhouse’s mother says he would have died if he didn’t bring a gun.
The teen’s mother, 45-year-old Wendy, has also recalled the moment her 17-year-old son returned home crying and pale after he shot two protesters in Wisconsin.
Rittenhouse was arrested at his Illinois home one day after the fatal shootings. He has remained in custody while his lawyers fight his extradition to Wisconsin.
Wendy defended her son and said he would’ve died if he wasn’t armed that night.
The mother-of-three said she did not know Kyle would be in Kenosha protests until he sent her a message on the night of August 25.
Wendy said her son and his friend spent the day removing graffiti off buildings in Kenosha before going to areas targeted by protesters.
As soon as the mother learned of shootings in Kenosha, she and her two daughters drove to Wisconsin to look for the teen but when they couldn’t find him, they returned home and he was already there.
“When I got back home, he was already there,” Wendy shared. “All I did was hug him, tell him I love him. He was crying. He was pale.”
Rittenhouse was arrested one day after the shooting.
“I get to the point where the first guy was chasing him to the gas station … And I see this mob chasing my son. The guy hitting my son in the head with a skateboard,” she expressed.
“Looking at my son’s face… I just cry, I was sick to my stomach. This mob was chasing my son to try to kill him.
“If he didn’t have that gun, he would’ve been dead.”
The mother said that the gun belonged to Rittenhouse’s friend and that he only used it that night.
“We can’t even go back home,” Wendy expressed. “We don’t even have a home because the fear of them breaking in my house, killing my daughters, killing me, and if Kyle was there, to kill him.”
