Kentucky Mayor gets arrested after running into a pole while driving under the influence of alcohol.
The metro police spotted Shively mayor Beverly Chester Burton on Tuesday at Louisville beside her crashed car and the utility pole. She was driving a silver Cadillac and lost control of her vehicle after leaving the White Castle parking lot at around 11 pm.
A fast-food outlet staff told police that the mayor stopped at their drive-thru line. She was under the influence of sleep, and they had to knock on the car’s window to wake her up. Before smashing the car into the light pole, she thumped the vehicle to the rear of a truck pushing it to hit another car.
The 59-year-old mayor told the authorities that she didn’t fell asleep, and she smashed into the pole deliberately. She explained that something went wrong with the car accelerator, and she had to hit the car into the pole to avoid crashing into other vehicles.
However, the police opposed the statement and said she was reeking alcohol and couldn’t walk in a straight line when arrested by the cops. They also said she didn’t pass the sobriety test, and there is no doubt of her being driving in a drunken state. She also refused the blood test when asked by the authorities.
Chester-Burton is the first-ever black candidate to get the mayorship of Kentucky; she got elected in 2018. Chester-Burton changed her statement twice while talking to the police. She first said she drunk two apple martinis at 5 pm and later changed the statement saying she had drinks at 9 pm.
Louisville Metro Department kept the mayor in custody for one day. She was released on Wednesday and is due again on Friday.
