US Justice Department Launches Civil Probe Into Policing Practices In Minneapolis


The Justice Department of the US has launched a recent civil probe into the various policing practices being used currently in the area of Minneapolis.

Local media outlets confirmed how the sudden decision comes one day following the much-anticipated verdict of Derek Chauvin. The former cop from Minneapolis was found guilty on all three of his charges yesterday.

For this reason, the Justice Department confirmed how George Floyd’s death was a major reason why it was time to investigate the policing practices used in the city.

The news was confirmed by Attorney General Merrick Garland who announced the decision during the early hours of Wednesday. In addition, Garland spoke about how the country still faces plenty of challenges that have been embedded into history for years.

“These policing policies did not arise suddenly today or last year. Therefore, it will surely take some time to build trust between the community as well as the different law enforcement agencies, with plenty of effort from all of us too,” he added.

According to media reports, the major civil nvestigation will be on a large scale involving the Federal board and hence will also encompass an in-depth and comprehensive review too of Minneapolis’s police departments and their policies that are currently in use too.

From the training and supervision to the policies and use of force investigations- everything will be considered in detail, Garland announced.

At the same time, it will also go on to assess whether or not Minneapolis’s law enforcement agencies actually engage in a specific practice or pattern relating to the use of excessive and lethal force such as during incidents like protests. Also, it will take into account whether there is any involvement of discriminatory conduct, also looking at the treatment of those who suffer from sort of health disabilities that pertain to their behavior too.
