Internet searches for Dior increase by 23% after Johnny Depp lost the case to The Sun.
Johnny Depp sued The Sun newspaper for calling him a wife beater in an article in 2018. The high court judge said the newspaper was not wrong in saying so as several shreds of evidence support the statement.
The 51-year-old actor, famous for his performance in The Pirates of the Caribbean, is accused of beating his ex-wife multiple times. Mr. Justice Nicol said that Depp was violent towards his wife and had hit her 12 times.
Depp denied the allegation of beating his wife and, in return, accused the wife of abuse, which she, according to her, is not valid.
Dior Aftershave advertisement starring Depp continues to air on television, and Depp’s fans are rushing to buy it.
However, the Hollywood star was ruled out from JK Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts series following the verdict.According to the beauty website Cosmetify, Dior is the best-selling aftershave at The Fragrance Shop. It is also included in the list of best-selling fragrances at The Perfume Shop.
The spokesperson of the Advertising Standards Authority said they received around 11 complaints against the Dior advert as the viewers think the advert shouldn’t be aired after Depp is declared a wife-beater by the court. So many fans of Depp are thanking and appreciating the company for not blocking the adverts.
“I am so happy that Johnny Depp is still the face of Sauvage. I am his huge fan!” someone tweeted.
“Thank you, Dior, for trusting Depp. He is a victim of abuse, not an abuser!” wrote another.
Many people also said that they want to buy the Sauvage, but it is sold out.
Johnny Depp can now take the case to the Court of Appeal if he wants to challenge the decision. Else he has to pay 520000 pounds to The Sun by December 7 and 108235 pounds by January 22.
