Harry Potter star Jessie Cave revealed that she was raped by her tennis coach when she was 14-year-old.
The 33-year-old actress, Jessie Cave who played Ron Weasley’s love interest, Lavender Brown, in the series, revealed that she was raped by her tennis coach when she was 14.
She revealed the traumatic experience about herself when she was on the podcast with her sister. In the podcast, the sisters discussed their life journey as a kid, teen, and adult, sharing their difficulties and who ‘had it worse’ throughout their adolescence.
During the episode of We Can’t Talk About That Right Now, where Jessie Cave revealed that she was raped, her 23-year-old sister Bebe said, that is kind of a trump card.
Jessie said, rape at 14 by your coach is pretty bad, who you trust the most, and who is in the position of power. She further added, she was very good at tennis, and she was fit, but the coach still took advantage of it, but he was sent to jail.
She said, because of the rape, she had a completely different life than her sister, as she was recovering from the trauma, and also her sexual journey was not as normal as her sister.
Jessie acknowledged that there were some consequences that she is realizing after 18 years later. While talking about it she said, she somehow feels lucky because it didn’t destroy her.
She said, people don’t talk much about the sexual abuses and traumas, but some people accept it and start to live with it, and are not defined by it
Jessie Cave is a former county-level swimmer, and she used to play tennis at the national level, but she retired early because of her injury.
Jessie was cast in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince as Lavender Brown in 2007 through an open casting call.
She played Ron’s love interest as lavender Brown in the Harry Potter series, to make Hermione jealous. She also starred in numerous West End productions, and she also performs comedy across London.
The 33-year-old Jessies cave has a son and a daughter with her fellow comedian Alfie Brown, and they are expecting another child together.
