Iraq issued an arrest warrant for President Donald Trump for the killing of an Iranian general as well as an Iraqi militia leader.
Media reports confirmed how the warrant was issued by a judge in Baghdad’s investigative court on Thursday. It was linked with the recent probing in the Washington-aimed drone attack, which killed Gen. Soleimani as well as Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
Meanwhile, the court’s media office confirmed the news, explaining how the incident took place right outside the capital’s airport vicinity, last January.
In the same way, it confirmed how Al-Muhandis was actually the deputy leader for the state-sponsored Mobilization Forces. This is an umbrella group that is made up of an array of militias. It includes some Iran-sponsored groups too, all created to fight against the Islamic State groups.
On the other hand, local news agencies explain how Soleimani actually led the whole expeditionary Quds force that belongs to Iran’s Guard Corps. This arrest warrant was originally for a charge that involves premeditated murder. In the same way, it carries the death penalty relating to the conviction.
Many experts and critics believe that it’s highly unlikely that it will take place, but it carries symbolic weightage during a waning time from Trump’s presidency. This decision to actually issue the warrant came about after the Judge recorded a series of statements regarding shocking claims from the deceased family.
Meanwhile, the court confirmed how the investigations into the case are still currently taking place. But without a doubt, they sparked massive fury, leading to a diplomatic crisis. And in the end, it worsened the already strained relations between the United States and Iraq.
Similarly, Iran’s groups have also carried out a series of measures to step up attacks against America’s presence in the Iraqi nation. This was coupled with an array of threats, leading Washington to shut down its current diplomatic mission in Baghdad.
