Christopher Mayer, aged 22, was arrested on Friday, 11th September for the murder of Lorraine Cox, aged 32.
Mayer is a homeless man from Exeter City, England. Cox, on the other hand, was a city native. She was reported missing over a week ago, on Thursday, 3rd September.
Cox was last seen in the Exeter City Centre in the early morning. She went missing on Tuesday, 1st September. Her family reported her missing two days later. Concern arose amongst her friends and family when Cox’s emergency medical kit was found at home.
Reportedly, Cox was a Type 1 diabetic who could not leave home without her insulin injection.
According to the Exeter Magistrates Court, police took six prime suspects into custody, including Mayer. The other suspects were aged 43, 22, 30, 33, and 71. After their interrogation, they were released on bail on Monday, September 7th.
Mayer, however, was charged officially last Friday evening. He will appear before the Exeter Magistrate’s Court in a few days with a court-appointed lawyer.
According to police investigators in the Devon and Cornwall Police Department, Cox’s family are in the loop for all updates as soon as they are received. The family also has assistance and protection from trained officers until more details about the case are discovered.
However, they have asked people to respect their privacy during this time. Most details about the case are being kept from the public, including why the case went from that of a missing person to homicide, and why Mayer is a prime suspect.
The detective in charge of the major crime investigation team, Lee Nattras, issued a statement, claiming that all search operations were still underway. All areas around Mary Arches Street and Exeter City Center are being searched extensively.
While Cox’s case is undoubtedly tragic, there are no concrete details at the moment. Mayer has not issued any statement about his case or plea.
