It was a heartbreaking moment as loved ones gathered to mourn the death of an 11-year-old girl who died after taking her own life.
Sources reported how the student from grade 6 in Western Australia committed suicide after her alleged rapist walked out from prison after getting bail. On that occasion, her loved ones demanded authorities to take measures for implementing new laws. Meanwhile, the youngster’s death sent shockwaves around the country.
Little Annaliesse Ugle was a student from Noongar First Nations. The gruesome incident shattered her life, taking an immense toll on her. After hearing about her sex abuser release, she indulged in self-inflicted harm. In the end, the injuries were so severe that medics flew her into Perth’s Children Hospital for treatment.
Coming from a rural background in the south of Perth, this wasn’t something that she could absorb. Her alleged abuser was 66 years old, who faced dozens of charges. Moreover, this included indecent dealing and sexual penetration of a minor.
Meanwhile, her loved ones gathered for a peaceful vigil on the stairs of the Parliament House in Western Australia.
On Thursday evening, they paid their respects while calling for an ‘Annaliesse’s Law.
’ Here, they demanded that legislative matters should make sure such rapists don’t hang around the streets so freely.At the same time, they felt that authorities should look into the matter of child sex crimes until the case enters the trial phase.
The parliament’s steps resounded with the innocent child’s photograph and plenty of candles. Loved ones found it hard to wipe away their tears amidst a gloomy environment of sadness. Also, there were plenty of pink balloons too that gave the emotionally charged gathering an environment of a memorial.
Furthermore, some family members donned shirts that read ‘Justice for Annaliesse.’ The vigil began with mourners chanting out that phrase, right before marching towards the front of the building.
The family says that their main aim is to help protect other young lives who went through similar situations.
