A 16-year old black girl was fatally shot dead by an Ohio police officer recently.
Local media outlets mentioned how the girl had originally called the law enforcement agencies in via a 911 disturbance call. Moreover, she alerted the officers about how there was someone trying to fight her and also attack her using a knife.
However, in the end, 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant was gunned down by the same officers that she had alerted.
Early investigations into the case showed how the incident took place in Columbus yesterday, shortly after the verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial was announced, mentioned authorities.
Officer rushed to the scene after being informed about the 911 emergency call, reaching her destination within 10 minutes. And that is when the cops claim they found a small group of young teenage girls. In addition, the officers did also report the presence of one male too, who was standing right outside a house.
Upon inquiry by the officer as to what the matter was all about and why they were all ganged up at this location, one girl was quick to respond named Ma’Khia, who pushed another towards the ground and then another girl against a vehicle.
The officer was appalled by Ma’Khia’s behavior and yelled at her to stop immediately and get down. However, she failed to comply with the officer’s demands. On that note, the Ohio-based police officer shot Ma’Khia four times.
A press conference was held yesterday where the state’s police chief, Michael Woods, released the cop’s bodycam footage in slow motion. It clearly showed how the teen girl had a knife in her hand. But it was right after the cop who carried out the incident yelled at her to get down on several occasions. Upon failing to comply, she received four bullets and was killed.
