A tragic and close link has emerged between the families of Daunte Wright and George Floyd.
According to media reports, it was revealed at a recent press conference for the Daunte Wright shooting case how George Floyd’s girlfriend was actually Daunte Wright’s teacher in high school.
Coincidentally, both incidents involved Black victims and both took place in Minneapolis, just ten miles from one another. Therefore, another link between the two families has emerged, leaving plenty of citizens stunned.
The shocking incident that took place on Monday left 20 years old Daunte Wright dead after a cop had ‘accidentally’ fired on the victim. The state’s police department claimed that the veteran police officer accidentally pulled the trigger, assuming she had reached forward for her taser.
The justification wasn’t good enough with violent protesters taking to the streets, demanding the cop be removed from her duties. Yesterday, the cop stepped down from her position in the police force, resigning alongside the department’s police chief too, who resigned as well. The news comes as pressure mounted upon the state to fire them.
On the other hand, George Floyd’s girlfriend identified herself as Courtney Rosa, speaking of her connection with the 20-year-old slain victim, Daunte Wright. Moreover, she confirmed how she was his high school teacher as a joint press conference between the Wrights and the Floyd’s took center stage on Tuesday.
Both deaths resulted in widespread riots throughout the city too. Ross mentioned how she was with George Floyd for the past three years, working as the dean of Edison High School. This was the same location where Wright took up his education.
“He was a silly boy and very goofy too,” she commented on Daunte Wright. In the same way, she spoke about how he was a boy that needed a lot of love. “Students like him needed more resources but they simply never got them,” she added.
Putting special emphasis on how the system needs to do more to protect Black life, there were moments that got a little emotional for both families seated at the conference.
