President Joe Biden approved his first US military action command recently which comprised of a US airstrike on Syria.
According to media reports, the US conducted a mega airstrike in Syria which primarily targeted facilities used by Iranian-backed militia groups. This marked the historic beginning of military action conducted by Joe Biden as president of the US, confirmed officials.
According to the Pentagon, this strike was carried out as a means of retaliation for the February 15th rocket attack that took place on a certain US-based military institution.
This was located at the Erbil International Airport, situated on the northern side of Iraq.
Moreover, the incident resulted in several casualties which included the death of a US-led coalition contractor with several other people wounded in the incident.Right after the airstrike was conducted, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin boldly told reporters about how confident he was in the target that they went after. “We know exactly what we hit,” he added. In the same way, Austin mentioned how the military was very confident about how the target served as a home base camp for Shia militants who carried out the strikes on February 15th.
On the other hand, Pentagon’s spokesperson John Kirby announced how the attack destroyed several facilities at the border control point, which was used by several Iranian-backed militant groups.
According to Kirby, these included Kataib Hezbollah as well as Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada. He added how this was most definitely a ‘proportionate military response too.’
Earlier throughout the week, the Kataib Hezbollah group boldly mentioned how they did not play any role in the recent rocket-based attacks that were held against several US targets in the Iraq nation.
Moreover, right after the attacks that took place on February 15th, another US base that hosted US forces came under attack in the north of Baghdad, just two days later. That resulted in the wounding of another contractor amongst others.
